More often than not, my desk resembles a teen's lending library rather than an adult's workspace. And I'm totally cool with that because I wouldn't want to miss out on even one of the amazing reads that came out this year. As another 365 days of vampire romances, dystopian thrillers and murder mysteries comes to a close, it seems the opportune time to reflect on the year in YA.

And what a year it was. We were introduced to a handful of debut authors who are bound to leave their mark on the literary scene (we're looking at you, Veronica Roth, Marie Lu and Tahereh Mafi!). We dove into new series from old favorites (Richelle Mead's "Bloodlines"). And we continued our adventures with the usual suspects (Cassandra Clare, Ally Condie and Melissa de la Cruz). We stayed up late, reading just one more chapter until it was dawn, shuffling into school or the office like so many brain-hungry zombies. And we adored every second of it. And now it's time for you, Crushers, to declare your undying love and devotion for the book that made your year. What was your favorite YA novel of 2011? Vote in our poll after the jump!

(The poll closes at 11:59 p.m. ET on December 25. We'll announce the winner on December 26.)

Title: Coincidences
Fandom: Infernal Devices
Rating: K+ / PG
Pairing: Will/Tessa
Summary: Tessa and Will have a little debate, but it doesn't turn out how they quite expected it to.

A/N: I'm sorry. This couple is just too adorable - trying not to drown in a pool of fluff. *___*

Title: Weakness
Fandom: Infernal Devices
Rating: K+ / PG
Pairing: Will/Tessa
Summary:  Post-CP. Will takes a moment to reflect on what he has lost.

A/N: Spoilers for Clockwork Prince! Also, angsty because reading the book broke my heart ;_;

Title: Conscious Apparel
Fandom: TID, [[CLOCKWORK PRINCE SPOILERS!!!]]
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 1050 approx.
Disclaimer: C.C. made the sandbox; I just play in it when I'm not busy sobbing over it.
Summary: Will Herondale is about to be haunted by the things he didn't need to know. Things about Tessa, Jem, propriety, and the lack of it.

A/N: The angst begged to be written, cliché as it may be. That's my only excuse.

Will notices the scarf. It's a fluffy drab thing that Jessamine would have tossed out on principal, and it's been mocking him all day.

Rating: PG
Word Count: 360 approx.
Disclaimer: C.C. made the sandbox; I just play in it when I'm not busy sobbing over it.
Summary: Mistaken impressions don't dampen real emotions.

A/N: Because the side-characters deserve love too, and as of CP, I'm sorry I ever doubted Henry Branwell.

Henry Branwell has seen men consumed by love and felt pity for them.

Love YA lit? Love writing fic?  Love writing fic for YA lit and wondering why there doesn’t seem to be very much for most books?

Join the YAlit100 challenge!

  • You MAY claim more than one table at a time.
  • You MAY do crossovers, fusions, and AU fic! If you intend to write crossovers and/or fusions, claim the table for the MAIN WORK (so, for example, if you want to write 100 godly-parent-fusion fics, your claim would be “Percy Jackson,” unless all 100 fics would star characters from Anna and the French Kiss or something. SOME ASPECT of all 100 fics must be constant for the book/table you choose!)
  • Fics can be ANY LENGTH. You may write 3-sentence fics, drabbles, one-shots, six-word-ficfests, whatever. The whole point is just to encourage more YA lit fic! :)

So far, there are just the first few tables up, but I will be adding my usual amount of ALL THE YA BOOKS.  :P  Join and/or Watch the
comm on LJ for updates, and make sure to suggest any book(s) that you may think I’ll miss or that you want to see sooner!

Title: Secondary Liberties
Fandom: The Infernal Devices, [[CLOCKWORK PRINCE SPOILER WARNING!!]]
Rating: R, to be safe.
Word Count: 1520 approx.
Disclaimer: C.C. made the sandbox; I just play in it when I'm not busy sobbing over it.
Summary: After Jem asked Tessa the momentous question, they sought a way to explore what they
had begun that fateful night in Jem's room...

A/N: Dedicated to fadedclassic on tumblr, because we have bonded over Ms. Clare’s heart-wrenching chicanery. And the fact that very few people can inspire me to this level of steamy.

A strange and wondrous thing, to find themselves here again.
